Tap Dance

Tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmical forms of dance! Tap dancing gives students the ability to express themselves through a combination of both movement and sound. Shows such as 42nd Street, Crazy For You and the more recent Stomp and Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music found in Tap Dancing. The school is lucky enough to follow both The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) syllabus as well as the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) syllabus.

Modern Dance

Modern dance is a form of dance which is influenced by the ever changing fashions in dance. It incorporates Jazz, Modern and Lyrical techniques as well as many other dance styles, to help young dancers become both versatile and dynamic in their dancing. The school follows the syllabus created by The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) who keep their work refreshed and updated by using all the current trends within the theatre today.

Ballet

One of the most graceful forms of dance which originated from the 16th and 17th century French courts and was then further developed in England, Italy and Russia as a concert dance form. It is a highly technical form of dance which can help to improve posture, strength and other foundational techniques required for many other dance styles. The word Ballet traces back to the Latin word “ballare” meaning dance.

Street Dance

Street Dance originated on the Streets of America and is now one of the most diverse and exciting dance styles around! Street Dance is today used as an umbrella term which covers many different street styles including Hip-Hop, Locking, Popping and Break dancing to name but a few. Why not come along and give a class a go?!

Disco Dance/ Freestyle

This form of dance became most popular during the disco music craze in the late 70's with the launch of films such as “Saturday Night Fever.” Disco/Freestyle dance can be performed to various music styles and can incorporate dynamic moves such as runs, kicks, leaps and spins. Disco/Freestyle dance helps to encourage dancers to develop their own performance style and to be more creative with dance.

Cheerleading

A form of sport/dance which uses choreographed routines to incorporate tumbling, dance jumps, cheers and stunting. Cheer is used in sports to bring attention to the sport and to encourage crowd participation. Cheerleading has more recently become popular due to use in films such as “Bring it on” and “High School Musical".

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre incorporates Acting, Singing and Dancing. It is thought that as early as the plays in ancient Greece, music was used to story tell. Some musicals that we know of today are also closely related to Operas that originated in Italy at around the turn of the 17th century. Musicals such as “Les Miserables” and “Evita” use little to no spoken dialogue and express the story line entirely through song and music. Musicals on
Broadway in America began in around 1866 and also here slightly later on the West End. Now musicals are found all over the world and are enjoyed by audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Current popular musicals include “Legally Blonde,” “Wicked,” “The Lion King,” “Joseph” and “Hairspray” to name but a few. Our Musical Theatre class aims to encourage all the skills which are required to excel in the world of Musical Theatre today.

Ballroom/Latin American

The term Ballroom stems from the word “ball” which originates from the Latin word “ballare,” which means to dance. Ballroom is a set of partner dances that are danced socially and competitively around the world. Ballroom was originally danced socially by the upper class leaving folkdance for the lower class. Today both Ballroom & Latin dance are enjoyed by many people across the world from varying backgrounds and abilities.

Parent & Baby/Toddler Classes

A fantastic way of introducing your little ones to the exciting world of dance and movement and also a little bit of singing! Classes use movements which work on both coordination and sensitivity, and are also based on imagery. We use percussion instruments to encourage rhythm and expressive music. At the end of every session there is an allocated free dance time to enable you to have fun and bond with your children, with the use of both dance and music, and also the techniques learnt in class!
